The hardest games to review are just bland
Frozenheim is just boring. It is neither a miracle of technology (although the views can be enjoyed – tastes are not discussed) nor an outstanding work of literature – it is driven by a vague story about revenge. The title did not surprise me at any time, and if it does, it is a minus – the units move extremely crude, the groups of soldiers we recruit tend to hold honorary duels with the opponent (even if our group has an advantage in numbers, they stand and pat one another after another with the enemy, multiplying your losses). There are no additional forms of gameplay, the multiplayer is empty – when I wanted to check the multiplayer mode, I had to play a match with bots whose AI is at the level of 20 years ago.
Third time lucky? Not this time…
It’s not like I wasn’t giving this game a chance. I gave her three, each completed in just over three hours. Worse, I ended each subsequent attempt even more indignant than before. The campaign lacks a challenge other than just stupid opponent units being thrown at the player, which as I mentioned tend to cling to the enemy in ways beyond my comprehension. This only extends the game time, but in a very irritating way. You have to return to the base over and over again to replenish the units,
because in a stupid forest I met stupid units, which in a stupid way killed me a few stupid axes, although i had a weight advantage of 3 to 1 in a paper bag [exhalation] for the author.
Odin, take it from me and take it to the hell
The aforementioned plot is at the fanfic level. I won’t get a Nobel Prize, but give me a few days and I’ll write something better myself. Even on the first try, when I was playing half-heartedly, I thought I would give this game 7/10. With each subsequent launch of this production, I descended lower and lower. I do not know who should thank the Nordic gods more – me that this is the end of this murder, or the creators of Frozenheim , because a few more approaches and I would have reached the 2/10 mark. The biggest problem in my opinion is that the developers made a game that (apart from the graphics, of course) would not stand out from the dozens of RTSs from 15-20 years ago. I also fully understand that I could use the same arguments towards Diplomacy is Not an Optionhowever, at least that production had something that made me spend long hours on it.
Nothing new
In addition to the campaign, there are three game modes (free building, survival and skirmish), in which the authors also did not dare to experiment. The small number of defensive structures means that the fight against successive waves of enemies is a constant run
to the barracks and back to replenish the losses among the warriors. There are also few units, which does not encourage more experimentation. On the plus side, I have to consider the shipbuilding system, thanks to which we can adjust the sizes and parameters of launched ships – this allows us to believe that some day in the multiplayer a “sea” battle will take place.
I can’t, I’m sweet (at the very sight of this game)
Everybody needs a friend from time to time, who is a lumberjack, smoker of children’s smiles and a destroyer of fun. If you just grabbed your wallet, enchanted by the climate of Scandinavia, its lakes and forests, I should advise you against this purchase. This is a really boring game that adds little to the genre and your biographies. Will Frozenheim ever be good? In my opinion, it would require more months of team work. Considering the game came out of early access in June, I’m not counting on that.
If you don’t believe me, thankfully nothing is lost – two hours of gameplay, during which you can change your mind and ask Steam for a refund, is enough to make up your mind about Frozenheim . If you do your best, even cook dinner, take the dog for a walk and call the parents for rumors.
If I have to say anything else about Frozenheim , it is simply boring. Have I mentioned this to you yet? Yeah, at the top of the review. Did I say that the views are nice? Also checked. However, if you want to read something about better RTSs, be sure to check out the article on early access Diplomacy is Not an Option or a retrograde about Red Alert .
