An uncomplicated story with a bottom line
Wilson creates reality in an undoubtedly extraordinary way. At the beginning of the novel, we meet two girls, friends from school (one of them, Lillian, is the narrator). The protagonists are radically different from each other, and it is not only about their social position and origin, but also about their beauty. Lilian and Madison, despite obvious adversities, maintain correspondence with each other for many years; Women’s paths intertwine when the narrator accepts the job of a governess (or rather a babysitter, since Lillian has no qualifications) of her friend’s two stepchildren. A well-paid job, peace of mind, and the company of a friend – there are pluses, and there is one catch: the children Lillian is supposed to deal with from time to time, in a fit of anger, excitement or weariness, catch fire, simply go up in flames.
Unloved by life
Lillian’s life was not easy; it was similar to what her new mentees Bessie and Roland are now leading. After the death of the mother, the children are taken to their father’s house, who lives in the mansion with his young wife Madison (yes, she is the narrator’s friend) and son Timothy. The man, currently serving as a senator, cannot afford a social lynch, so he decides to “take care” of the twins. However, he must be careful when applying for the position of secretary of state, vice president, and perhaps even president. Any unfortunate move is likely to frustrate your plans and squander years of effort. Lillian is to prevent this. The way Wilson creates the presented world will appeal to even the most demanding readers – the perspective of a young girl is not easy to present, but it is in vain to find the originator’s mistakes in this novel. Nothing to See Here confirms that relationships are born where there is mutual respect and the need for closeness; sometimes kinship doesn’t matter. The surreal concept, woven into the daily family drama, is unique and will undoubtedly delight you with its honesty and authenticity of the message.
A unique story that can be read over and over again
A novel reads very quickly, mainly because you cannot tear yourself away from it. After reading it, we regret that the book is not longer, because many threads are discussed very briefly. Wilson probably did not want to tire the reader, which he undoubtedly succeeded in doing. Agora publishing house took care of the atmospheric and very aesthetic cover of the novel. The end paper also deserves special attention. Nothing to See Here is a literary proposition that you can read, but most of all it is worth having. One should look for such beautifully published books on bookstore shelves.
