Virion the father? – a review of the book “Virion. Castle”

A more mature man

Virion. The Castle seems to be the beginning of a series of novels, at the end of which we will see the hero known from the series of books collectively called Achaia . Nevertheless, already mature Virion arouses great admiration or fear among people, depending on whom we ask. The times of an unsure young man are gone forever. The world he lives in has already left its mark on him and toughened the swordsman. Soon another bomb explodes in his life. After bouncing his wife Niki from the monastery, it turns out that the plague is expecting a child. It would not be surprising if it were not for the fact that humans and ghosts should not be able to beget offspring. The protagonist is generally not looking for trouble, but they soon find him themselves. This is thanks to the prosecutor Taida, once chasing Virion. Their paths cross again. Why? The castle on which the entire structure of the Luan Empire rests is being infiltrated by an unknown enemy!

Fight for life

The new version of Virion’s adventures is a dark story, not avoiding the constant bloodshed. We will find here a lot of actions, descriptions of fights and quite a cutting language. There was also room for new heroes as well as old acquaintances who appeared in Achaia i. When it proves that Virion alone is not enough, the idea comes up to form a team of the best fighters. This is where, among others, Hekke and Nolaan, inspired swordsmen, well known to fans of the series, enter the scene. Among the new faces, it is worth mentioning the cog of the Castle machine, a private soldier named Kody, who, having no choice, starts cooperation with Taida. However, the fight for the future of the world will not be easy. The enemies are smart and determined. Virion and his team will fight more than one seemingly impossible fight. Such skirmishes, however, are the specialty of inspired swordsmen.

Summary

Virion. The Castle is another noteworthy book by Andrzej Ziemiański. The universe is expanding more and more, and the ending of the volume in question heralds much more important events that will come in the next volumes. I look forward to my next trip to this world.
