A few days before the delivery, I was incredibly intrigued by the proposal from Megacorpin Games (published in Poland through our Bookstore), because a letter landed in my mailbox, from which I learned that I was … suspected of committing a murder! In one moment my heart leapt into my throat, and my darting eyes grew as big as plates with each word I read. However, shock and disbelief quickly gave way to amusement as I realized that the PR people of the game I ordered did a great job!
Unwelcome Guests – Rules of the Game
In Undesirable Guests , players take on the role of detectives whose goal is to solve the murder of Woodruff Walton – one disgustingly rich host of the house. Due to his interest in business, but also calculation, the guy was at stake with his family, friends and colleagues, which is why each of them is a potential suspect. In addition to indicating the guilty party, players must also guess the reason for the murder and the item with which the murderer sent the unfortunate to the other world.
The position is intended for a maximum of 8 people, but a solo game is also possible. According to the instructions, the game time is expected to be 45-75 minutes, depending on the number of participants in the game. When deciding to decide on this introductory level criminal board puzzle, very easy or easy, we only have to guess three questions: who killed what, and for what reason. On the other hand, when choosing an investigation at an average, difficult, very difficult or expert level, we get two additional questions: “Did the murderer have an accomplice?” and “What was his motive for action?”

After choosing the level of the game and unfolding the board with the plan of the deceased’s residence, each player receives 6 cards in their hand, containing information valuable for the cause. We write them down on special sheets with fields for residences, suspects and crime tools. The game round is divided into 3 phases: 1) investigator on the trail (which includes: conducting an investigation, submitting offers and exchanging cards), 2) attempting to solve the investigation, and 3) discarding and selecting new cards.
The key to the game is the “investigative on the trail” phase, because this is where the most action is. Although detectives do not cooperate with each other, they can exchange cards, making all kinds of offers. A player interested in the opponent’s cards must make a counter-offer with a value equal to or higher than that of another participant in the game. In this way, in addition to selecting new cards, we have the opportunity to obtain clues that may bring us closer to solving the case. In the event that any player decides that they have the answers to all questions, they must signal their readiness by turning the detective token over to the appropriate side, and then check their tips against the answers in the instructions. It should be noted, however, that even one mistake eliminates him from further gameplay.
Investigations so good Sherlock would shed a tear
The Unwelcome Guests game is definitely not for one evening. Thanks to many scenarios (and an application that generates investigations!) And various levels of difficulty, the replayability of this position is definitely high. In order to bring the case to an end, players must demonstrate not only concentration in combining facts, but also predicting at least which path the murderer followed through the residence to his victim. As if that was not enough, they must respond to the offers of others in such a way as to get the cards they want, but also try to make it difficult for the opponent to solve the investigation, which adds to the thrill of competition,
