Turning living creatures into glass – review of the comic book “Czarolina. The Girl Who Loved Werebeasts “, vol. 2

Czarolina delighted us in October. In the next issue by Sylvia Douyé and Paola Antista, you will read the continuation of the story I told you a few weeks ago. This comic book is really worth a look!

The magical world of comics

The cover of the second volume of Czarolina attracts the attention of the reader no less than the first part of the series. On the opening pages of the comic, together with the protagonist, we refresh ourselves with events from the past. This is an interesting author’s procedure that will surely appeal to readers unfamiliar with the previous issue. In addition, the author decided to use the structure of the letter, which allowed for an interesting development of the topic related to the mother of the main character. It does not change the fact that the action of the discussed Czarolinafocuses on a limited number of heroes: Czarolina, Professor Balthazar, Meroda, Alcyda, and Willa. The others – Madame C, Tara, and Arlena – were turned into glass statues by … right? Czaroliny? This is what you will learn from the second issue, while learning the secrets of the inhabitants of the island of Vorn.

Franco-Italian idea

Unfortunately, just like in the first notebook, we get lost in the plot in the second one. Fortunately, time jumps aren’t as frequent as they were in the first volume. Once again, we reflect on the magical abilities of Czarolina, answer questions about guilt and punishment, and watch fantastic creatures, which are still not too many. It is worth noting, however, that their sketches attract attention and allow you to feel the atmosphere of the island of Vorn. In the latest issue of Czarolina’s adventures, there are also scenes that could resemble more than one horror story , but reading the first volume has already got us used to such emotions as: jealousy, fear, aggression, anger.

Magic heroes and scenery

The mystery discussed in two notebooks is interesting for the reader, especially since the ending of the story seems to be within reach all the time. Additionally, despite the dramatic and somewhat drastic scenes, we smile while reading, while our heroes also do so. We subconsciously believe in the positive ending of the story we started. The comic’s greatest asset is still the way it presents the landscape, which serves as the backdrop for Czarolina’s adventures. It is true that magical animals are not exciting because of their (unknown to the reader) names – rhino-horned beetle (?) And deer with wings (?) Appear next to the mermaid and the dragon. Only two pages list the species that live on the island of Vorn – wolpertigera (characteristic features are listed by Will – wings, antlers, claws, cock’s comb), jacktalope and skvander.

Is it worth it?

Despite the initial fake start , it can be said that yes, it’s worth it. Although initially the characters may seem uninteresting to the reader, in the second issue we learn more about their features and start cheering for the characters we choose. The number of magical animals has also increased, which means that we will definitely be happy to return to the comic soon after. The Egmont edition is delightful and makes us look forward to the next volume. It might seem that the story of Czarolina is coming to an end, but I have a feeling that the creators will surprise us!
