Try-ons for a series from the Harry Potter universe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. and HBO Max, talks are underway about fitting the new series on the streaming platform.

The THR article noted that the talks are at a very early stage. At the moment, it looks like HBO directors Max and Warner Bros. are actively working on how to bring the Harry Potter franchise to TV. Producers from both HBO Max and Warner Bros. told THR that at the moment there is no advanced work on the new production. The conversation about what story can be told through the TV series is still ongoing. The problem is the complicated provisions contained in the franchise agreement for the brand created by Rowling. At the moment, the author controls all the moves concerning the series. In 2016, NBCUniversal signed an extensive seven-year deal with Warner Bros. Domestic TV Distribution, which included streaming and television broadcasting rights in the United States, running the Wizarding World website as well as the Hogwarts Legacy game and the development of amusement parks branded with the Harry Potter logo. The contract ends in April 2025.

There seem to be three variants. The first involves renegotiating the franchise agreement. The second option, however, is to look for “legal loops” in the contract. The third option is to wait 4 years until the end of the current franchise. After the success of series such as The Mandalorian or Game of Thrones and the unflagging popularity of the wizarding series, it is not surprising that producers are looking for a possibility of a certain profit from the new production.

What could the new series be about? Fans count primarily on depicting the history of the Marauders. Will this happen? We will find out soon. At the moment, we have fan films.
