On September 7, 2008, on HBO, fans saw the cult series True Blood for the first time . It was based on the novel by Charlaine Harris – The Southern Vampire Mysteries. This series – for a change – presents a world where the existence of vampires is common knowledge among ordinary mortals, and both groups attempt to peacefully coexist. Of course, there are opponents of this cooperation on both sides of the barricade, but the situation becomes more complicated when women mysteriously die in the town.
The main character of the series is Sookie Stackhouse, played by Anna Paquin. She plays an apparently ordinary waitress who shows quite unusual ability to read other people’s thoughts. Eventually, Sookie gets involved in a relationship with a vampire named Bill (Stephen Moyer) whose thoughts are the only one she can’t read. The heroes, fascinated with each other, enter into a relationship that their friends from either side do not like.
The series was created by Alan Ball, known for such productions as American Beauty and Six Feet Under . The first season was very successful with critics and was awarded a Golden Globe and an Emmy. Finally, he received 14 statuettes and as many as 74 nominations. True Blood reached the largest audience of HBO productions in those years, and a continuation was certain after the second episode of the first season. In Poland, the series could be watched from February 7, 2009 on HBO Polska. Production finally ended in 2014, scoring 7 seasons and 80 episodes.
