Troll from under the bridge
Glass, Snow and Apples and Other Stories is a collection of three stories based on the work of Neil Gaiman . Tom opens the Troll Bridge . The main character of this story wanders around the area until he comes across a viaduct, which turns out to be inhabited by a troll. The protagonist, referring to his young age, avoids being devoured by a hungry monster. Although it would seem obvious that he should avoid this place at all costs, he is destined to return to the eponymous bridge again and more than once! In my opinion, this story is the worst of the three, although it still holds a high level. I especially liked the ways the protagonist tries to convince the troll not to eat him. In addition, the ending positively surprised me. Nevertheless, in the case ofThe graphics of the Troll Bridge made the greatest impression on me. Pages without frames, where individual events merge into one image, make an amazing effect.
Girls are one big puzzle
How to talk to girls at parties is the second story in this collection. The story begins trivially: two buddies go to a party, but unexpectedly go to a completely different party. Enn, unlike his friend, is shy and has a hard time making friends with strangers. Therefore, with difficulty he managed to overcome his weaknesses and talk to the girls present at the party. Interestingly, the conversations with them were extremely intriguing, after all, who has heard of a woman who is a poem? And these are not the only weird stories our heroes have heard at this party! How to talk to girls at partiesis an interesting and very addictive story. The most endearing are the protagonist’s reactions to the crazy stories he hears. For him, women undoubtedly come from another planet, so he is not surprised when he hears about “flying with tachyon swans”! After all, at this point, she only thinks about cuddling! Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá nicely illustrated this brilliant story. I especially liked the expressive and slightly unnatural faces of the characters.
A fairy-tale setting
The title comic, Glass, Snow and Apples , is in my opinion the best story contained in this collection. Not only because of the intriguing scenario and fun with tradition, but most of all thanks to the graphics! Here we have a completely different version of the fairy tale about Snow White. Gaiman took the best of the classics and remade it in his own way. I was especially taken by the figure of the prince and his… fetish, although I was even more surprised by the terrifying nature of Snow White. Plus, Collen Doran, like the Troll Bridge , did an amazing job. The individual scenes look wonderful, and some are stylized as stained glass. I just felt this fairy tale, soaked in it and was unable to break away until the very end.
Is it worth going to a party?
Glass, snow and apples and other stories is my third encounter with Gaiman’s work in the form of a comic. And once again it was an amazing adventure. Contrary to Ordinary Stories , I cannot fault any of the three stories here. However, thanks to Collen Doran Glass, snow and apples and other stories delighted me with the graphic design, as well as the Books of Magic . What more can I say? I wholeheartedly recommend all comics based on Gaiman’s work. This volume, as well as the two previously mentioned items, are little gems worth getting to know!
