In 1959, Réne Goscinny and Alberto Uderzo invented the character of Asterix. Since then, there have been a lot of gadgets, movies and comics referring to this hero. Is it worth going back to the very beginning to see how it all began?
Where are you, Obelix?
After such a long time, the comic book Adventures of Gall Asterixhas grown old? Not at all. He still amuses, makes us laugh and even teaches – for example, that not strength is the most important thing, but smartness. In this position you can find a lot of curiosity, like the fact that Panoramiks did not originally live in a village. In addition, it is evident that the central character is Asterix, and he makes Obelix his secondary companion, and only in later comics will he become a full-fledged hero, and most importantly, also a true friend of Asterix, for better or for worse. Alberto Uderzo has an extraordinary talent. I like the way it portrays the angry heroes the most. In this respect, Gajus Globus reigns. When he jumps up in anger, you just feel the movement, energy and rage seething from it. So far, I am enjoying these dynamic scenes.
The druid who lived in the tree
Considering that this is a jubilee edition, apart from the comic book Przygody Gal Asterix , there is also a solid journalism that reveals the backstage of the creation of this comic. Thanks to this, you can find out how Goscinny and Uderzo came up with the idea of setting the action in Gaul and why Asterix is a midget. It is definitely a valuable source of knowledge, written in an accessible and interesting way. It also includes previously unpublished notes and sketches. Egmont did not disappoint and, in connection with the round anniversary, issued a gem. It’s a pity that there was no attempt at a hardcover that would add splendor to this volume. Adventures of Gall Asterixit is a great introduction to the world of Gauls, but also a nostalgic return to childhood. What can I say, it is pure pleasure to be able to commune with this work and rediscover the adventures of Asterix and Obelix.
A legend that goes on and on
Despite the passage of time, the amazing potential of this series is still visible. Asterix still makes children and adults laugh – it’s just a lot of fun for any occasion. Réne Goscinny and Alberto Uderzo have created a phenomenal story. I hope that future generations will also be able to grow up on the adventures of Asterix and Obelix.
It’s worth reading this comic. The story itself can still make you laugh, the graphic design is a small work of art, and the additional journalism should intrigue all fans of undefeated Gauls.
PS: It so happened that before reading the comic, I watched an animation based on that comic and, to put it mildly, it made me a bit tired. However, when I started reading the book, I had the impression that I was discovering this story anew. That’s why I think the Adventures of Gal Asterix didn’t get old – unlike the movie.
