The Swan Princess – dir. Richard Rich (1994)
I have a vague memory that when I was a child I thought that absolutely all cartoons were eared mouse productions and only after many years I discovered that my favorite animations did not have the Disney logo on the covers. The Swan Princess is one of the first fairy tales I remember from my childhood, which I played on VHS until it was destroyed. The film is a free adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s ballet Swan Lake and tells the story of Princess Odette, who turns into a swan every night as a result of a curse on her. The animation has a very pleasant, fairy-tale atmosphere and it seems to me that it is because of it that many people brought up on this fairy tale want to return to it also at a more mature age and still have a lot of fondness for it.
