Although the name says “world” (or “international”), today Cat Day is celebrated only in Poland and Italy. Other countries have their days, but it is not the date that counts, but the goal of caring for these pets. Therefore, the more the celebration, the better!
Cat’s Day was established to emphasize the importance of these animals in human life, to sensitize us to their often difficult fate and to raise social awareness of the need and the possibility of helping kittens who need it, i.e. the free-living and those who once had their own home, but for some reason they lost it.
That is why today we pay attention to furry quadrupeds, which also very often appear in fantasy works. It is surprising how many characters are accompanied by a cat or even how many cats are of great importance to the plot of a song, even if they are not their main characters.
Where would I start? In Sailor Moon we have Artemis, Diana and Luna to help and advise the heroines. In The Master and Margarita, Behemoth is a demon that takes the form of a black cat or a man with a “cat’s” face. There is of course also a lazy fan of Garfield lasagna, Salem from Sabrina, a teenage witch , Weirdo from Alice in Wonderland, and Greebo, a cat by Nanny Ogg from Pratchett’s Discworld . Apart from them, there are also Aslan from Narnia , Hermione Granger’s cat Krzywoap, Klakier z Smurfów , our Polish Philemon and many, many others.
Is your favorite cat hero among those listed above? Or maybe another furry turned your head? Let us know in the comments!
