Tobe Hooper – the master of horror

Hooper world came on January 25, 1943. On the director’s birthday, we remember his greatest cinema hits.

He was born in the American city of Texas, specifically the city of Austin. His love for the art of film appeared in his childhood, when he was taken by his father to the local cinema. This awakened a passion in him which he quickly turned into a future career. In his teens, he directed his first amateur films, casting his schoolmates in the roles. Although many sources mention The Heisters as his debut his first work was a short production called The Abyss .

He is best known for creating the cult movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This production quickly became a classic of horror, still remembered with sentiment by many fans of the genre. The director based the plot on the true story of a serial killer, Ed Gein, the cannibal-killer responsible for the Wisconsin murders in the 1950s. This film opened the door to a career in Hollywood for Hooper and launched the director’s fame.

Tobe Hooper has created many films, mainly thriller and horror films, the most popular of which were the Salem Town, Zjedzeni Życem, Lunapark and Ghost , which guaranteed the filmmaker a nomination for the Saturn Award in 1983. He also directed the films Vital Force and Mars Invaders . Soon after, he returned to his classic, producing The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. He also began working on television, engaging in lesser-known projects such as Shadow Realm and Dark Sky .

The last film to be directed by Tobe Hooper was 2013’s Djinn . Most of the production received negative reviews, not satisfying the fans of the then master. After all, his films still arouse sentiment among fans of horror movies. The creator of the horror classic died in 2017 in Los Angeles.
