To the rescue comes … a courage with a mustache – review of the comic book “Typhoon – new adventures – Anthology”

Let us give our honors to Raczkiewicz

The first adventures of Tajfun were published in Świat Młodych for the first time . Years later, as a tribute to Raczkiewicz, Planeta Komiksów published the anthology Typhoon – New Adventures . It consists of nine comics and a fanart gallery. At the beginning of the volume there is also an interview with Raczkiewicz and some short information about the title character.

Typhoon and preacher

The stories are diverse, some of them amuse the reader to tears, others touch more serious topics, such as the question of power. They all have one thing in common, and that is the Typhoon figure. He is a talented employee of the secret agency Nino, who knows martial arts and is also handsome. This second aspect, namely the lush mustache main character, Victor comic touches even Talango called refined Lump . Apart from Typhoon, there will also be Kriss and Maar, his close friends and talented agents (unfortunately, they are rather supporting characters, and in some comics they were completely omitted).

The comics included in the anthology are diverse in terms of plots and genres. We have a humorous adventure at the airport, grotesque fun on an unnamed planet or an energetic vampire in the role of, as it turns out, not so bad antagonist. On the other hand , Lucifer’s Army is clearly associated with Mad Max , and the post-apocalyptic atmosphere is enhanced by the great line of Paweł Gierczak. The candidate   tells a classic story that you have to fight your limitations and break stereotypes at the same time. Typhoon and preacher is a short miniature that focuses on tearing down the fourth wall. The variety of comics additionally emphasizes the artists’ style.

Invasion of artists of all kinds

In the case of such an anthology, a certain problem is the evaluation of the graphic design, because each comic was drawn by a different person. The artists present various styles, from more realistic drawings to quite caricatured ones. However, all the creators have such a good technique that they perfectly matched their lines to the story they wanted to present. As you can see, you can present the adventures of Typhoon in various ways and each of them can delight you. I will not hide that I enjoyed browsing this comic to be able to admire the variety of styles.

Typhoon – new adventures – Anthology is a solid item. In fact, I have nothing to complain about. I will say more, it captivated me in every way. This edition is a masterpiece, the graphics still delight me, and I will gladly return to the stories presented in this volume. In addition, I liked the characters created by Raczkiewicz. The advantage are also additions, such as an interview with the author of the original or a short text that introduces the character of Typhoon. The fanart gallery is also a bull’s eye – all the graphics are beautiful in their own way, because they show the heroes of this anthology in every possible way, from grotesque to realism.

Should the mustache be shaved?

I admit that I had not dealt with the works of Raczkiewicz before. This is my first encounter with Typhoon, and after reading these one hundred and forty pages, I still feel unsatisfied. I just had a lot of fun, all the authors created original stories in a great graphic design. This variety of styles is, in my opinion, the greatest advantage of this anthology. I encourage both Raczkiewicz fans and people who have not had the opportunity to meet Tajfun to read this volume. This is an example of solid Polish science fiction with a large dose of humor and absurdity.
