The film about Willy Wonka, announced some time ago, finally has a lead role. The role of the eccentric producer of sweets will be played by the star of the upcoming remake of “Dune”.
The appointment of Chalamet was the first to be confirmed by the Deadline service. The actor was one of the favorites for the role of Wonka, and Tom Holland, known from the role of Spider-Man, was mentioned as his main competitor. One of the main factors that probably decided were the schedules of both men.
Wonka will be a prequel to the story of Roald Dahl’s previous screen adaptations. The production will tell about the youth of the title character. The image is to be kept in the musical convention, similarly to earlier films, where Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp played the confectionery producer respectively.
Wonka will be directed by Paul King, who has, among others, two parts of Paddington’s adventures. The script is written by Simon Farnaby. The premiere of the film is planned for March 2023.
