At the center of the upcoming blockbuster is Timothée Chalamet , who will play a younger version of the titular pastry chef. While we haven’t received any official information on Wonka beyond a single promotional photo, Chalamet already has high hopes for the film’s development. In a recent interview with Vogue, Chalamet said the film would cater to “an uncynical young audience.”
It was a joy to work on something that would have an impact on an uncynical young audience. That just encouraged me. In a time and climate of intense political rhetoric, when there is so much bad news all the time, let’s hope this will be a piece of chocolate to sweeten our reality a bit.
Chalamet said.
The Wonka prequel also stars Olivia Colman ( The Favorite , The Crown ), Rowan Atkinson ( Mr. Bean , Love Actually ), Sally Hawkins ( The Shape of Water ) and Keegan Michael Key ( The Ferry , Schmigadoon! ). Set before the events of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , Paul King ( Paddington) is set to direct. In the new film, King will reunite with several Paddington stars including Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith and Matt Lucas. Other confirmed cast members include Mathew Baynton (( Ghosts), Jim Carter ( Downton Abbe ), Rich Fulcher ( Marriage Story ), Paterson Joseph ( Tic Tac Toe ), Calah Lane ( The Day Will Come ), Colin O’Brien ( Mothership ), Natasha Rothwell ( White Lotus ), Rakhee Thakrar ( Sex Education ) and Ellie White ( The Other One ).
