They are strange, they are terrible, they are loved by the whole world. They were film, series and even animated, they were hosted in color and in black and white. They have grace, unique style and secret dealings with dark powers, ladies and gentlemen – The Addams Family!
The Addams Family first appeared in Charles Addams’ comic books in 1938. With its originality, lightness in using black humor and captivating characters, it conquers the hearts of fans until today, being one of the most frequently returned to the screen group of characters. She first appeared on it in a black and white TV series that aired between 1964 and 1966, creating the iconic song that opened each episode. Based on this vision, the movie Halloween with the New Addams Family (1977) was also made , this time in color.
In 1991 and 1993, two feature films were made, The Addams Family and The Addams Family 2 ( Addams Family Values ), perhaps the most recognizable productions about their adventures today.
In 2019, the animated film version was released, the next part of which is announced for 2021.
However, these are only selected works, as a total of 4 films (the fifth in preparation), 5 series (including two animated), 6 video games and 1 musical were made about this macabre family.
So no one is surprised that the next installment of the Addams world awaits us. This time, however, there is no doubt that it will be something we have never seen before. The production of the latest series will be done by none other than Tim Burton himself. Creator of such films as Beetlejuice (1988), Alice in Wonderland (2010) and Alice Across the Mirror (2016), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), Corpse Bride (2005), Halloween Town ( 1993) and Edward Nożycoręki(1990) is certainly an excellent candidate for the director of a series based on dark atmosphere and dark humor. The original, specific style of the filmmaker perfectly complements the character of Charles Addams and is certainly able to fully use the potential of the story. At the moment, we know that Burton is executive producer, but discussions are ongoing about directing individual episodes. He is to collaborate with Alfred Gough and Miles Miller, creators of the DC series Smallville Mysteries (2001-2011). Several streaming platforms are struggling to distribute the title under development, however, sources report that Netflix is at the helm .
The story is to be told from the perspective of Wednesday (as the next one, after the animation from 2019 and the series Adult Wednesday Addams from 2013) and takes place in the present day. The rest is still a mystery, but we know Burton is known for his collaboration with Johnny Depp ( Pirates of the Caribbean , Alice in Wonderland ) and Helena Bonham-Carter ( Harry Potter , Cinderella ), so maybe we can count on them as Gomez and Morticia Addams?
