After the premiere of Civil War , the Insignis publishing house released another novel set in the Marvel Universe on the Polish market. This time it's X-Men: Dark Phoenix Saga by Stuart Moore.
Jean Gray and the rest
X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga is a novel based on a 1976 comic book called The Dark Phoenix Saga., by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. We get its faithful adaptation, the heroes of which are the famous mutants from the X-Men group: Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Kitty Pryde and of course Jean Gray. We will also come across such characters as Charles Xavier, Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, Angel and Mastermind, and there will also be Avengers members with Spider-Man and Iron Man at the fore. The plot, however, focuses on Jean’s transformation into Phoenix: after an unsuccessful journey into space, the telepath dies and is reborn in a completely new version. Its power grows with each passing moment and the mind begins to take on a completely different identity. The transformed woman first becomes the target of the Hellfire Club, who sees her as the Black Queen, and then is deemed a threat to Earth. Jean’s friends, however, do not intend to allow her to be killed. If someone had enough emotions, the Shi’ar Empire would also become involved in the whole conflict.
Describing images
As I already mentioned, the author of X-Men: Dark Phoenix Saga is Stuart Moore, a man for many years associated with the world of comics. He has worked for Dark Horse, DC Comics and Marvel, among others, and created notebooks with Batman or Spider-Man in the main roles. He is also the author of another novel from the Marvel Universe, Civil War. As in the case of the previous novel, there is no doubt here that this is not a random writer. Moore is perfectly oriented in the described world and is able to introduce the reader to the events taking place on Earth-616. In addition, he has a good understanding of the relations between individual mutants and has no difficulties with showing them, thanks to which the reader will be able to feel the emotions and feelings dormant in the characters. Of course, the original comic from the 1970s is also familiar to him and the writer skillfully transfers it to the ground of the novel. The only thing that can be accused of the author is excessive attention to detail. Moore describes almost every frame of the comic. So at times the action stops, and we have to read about what kind of furniture is in a given room or how individual characters are dressed, even those not very important to the story. Personally, I have omitted this description several times in order to find out what will happen next. It must be admitted that despite the downtime, the action remains fast. The plot is really addictive, and we support the heroes who get into trouble very often; we are curious how they will manage to get out of trouble this time. A very big plus is that each of the X-Men gets their role and their “five minutes”. So if any of the aforementioned mutants is your favorite, you do not have to worry that it will be omitted from the described story. we are curious to see how they will manage to get out of trouble this time. Between a movie and a comic
X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga is a very interesting game that is definitely worth reaching for. If you are interested in the adventures of Marvel heroes, but you do not like comics, then be sure to reach for this novel. Perhaps this reading will encourage you to read the drawing stories later? Also, fans of the notebooks published by the House of Ideas will not be disappointed – Stuart Moore brilliantly turned images into words and created an excellent story on their basis. Although there are sometimes too many descriptions here, the novel certainly does not lack emotion or dynamic action. Finally, if the movie X-Men: Dark PhoenixIt disappointed you, the book should compensate for it and encourage you to follow the adventures of mutants. Finally, I must add that Marvel really cares about its interests. For the second time, he managed to publish a novel that reads lightly and pleasantly, and is at the same time engaging and interesting. You can see that the books were not created in a hurry, but they were used to enter the book market in a thoughtful way. I realize this is an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of superheroes and another “cash jump”, but this jump is very successful. If the next novels keep the level of this title, I will gladly throw my money into the Marvel sack and buy the next item from the aforementioned Universe.
