“There’s Nothing Holdin ‘Me Back” – review of the DVD of the animation “Sing 2”

Can today’s cinema still surprise us? Talking and singing animals – they were. The movie version of the talent show – I have seen more times than photos from the wedding. Animated musicals – infantile monsters in Huggy Wuggy style for kids. The first part of Sing – a not very interesting cluster of well-worn patterns and the above-mentioned motifs. Continuation? A positive surprise!

Buster and his crew continue to dream of reaching the stars, so they want to stage their new show at the legendary Crystal Theater in the dazzling city of Redshore. Unfortunately, they do not pass the initial casting, but Gunter comes up with a literally cosmic idea and promises to bring the rock legend – the lion Clay (Bono) to his show. Of course, everything turns out not to think of the heroes …

Connection of Glee with Manufacturers ?

Not every film has to change the history of cinema and set new trends. The most important thing, however, is to please the viewer at the end of the day and to provide them with high-quality entertainment. The creators of Sing 2 follow the usual patterns and joyfully draw from the work of other artists, but they do it with extraordinary lightness, giving their animation a characteristic atmosphere, emotions and warmth. My son has watched the adventures of Buster and his crew a dozen times already, which is the best confirmation of the quality of Illumination’s production.

The scenario is not surprising, so on the screen we see a mix of energetic Glee and fictional ideas from the Producers . The sequel to Sing is inspired especially by the Ryan Murphy series. The heroes of the animation, like the students of McKinley High School, perform on stage and sing their problems with the words of great modern hits, such as: A Sky Full of Stars (Coldplay), There’s Nothing Holding Me Back (Shawn Mendes), etc. Song interpretations in the performance of protagonists are easy they are catchy, and in some cases sound much better than the originals (eg Could Have Been Me).It was all lined with a cute sense of humor, well-written characters (kids can identify with animated artists) and well-built relationships between them.

Karaoke with animation characters

What is surprising is the solid release of the Sing 2 DVD , which this time was not only brought down to the movie disc, but is packed to the brim with interesting additions, often in our native language.

After starting the DVD, we get a standard, intuitive menu, allowing us to easily select the language, scenes and extras. The whole thing was clearly prepared for the youngest viewers, thanks to which my son easily turns on the album and accessories that interest him. The ability to select a given fragment of the animation, which allows him to sing his favorite song again, was especially helpful.

The most important element of the release are additional materials, especially two hilarious mini-films. In the first of them we observe a pastiche of spy cinema with the participation of Gunter, and the second is a parody of Johnny Depp in a Dior commercial that is quite unambiguous for the viewer. It is worth noting that we can see short animations with Polish dubbing, which is not always so obvious in publishers (e.g. in the case of a movie from Spider-Man: Universe ).

The album also features karaoke – Singing together, thanks to which children can sing their favorite songs from the film with the characters of the animation. The material showing the actors during the recording of the original dub is also quite interesting, with Matthew McConaughey playing the Buster koala in the lead. In the next videos we get to know, among others backstage of creating heroes and creating dance choreography for pets. Unfortunately, all of the above-mentioned materials are available only in English.

Sing 2 , a nice repetition of entertainment

We all have productions that we just don’t want to watch. We usually do it out of coercion on the part of our partners (so-called romantic evenings) or we do not want to disappoint the kids. Sometimes, the films we watch can surprise us positively. This was the case with the extremely enjoyable Sing 2 screening and the unexpectedly solid DVD release of this animation.
