Supernatural Abilities
With the help of a giant, Leap discovers that she understands the language of the stones. At first, her brother refuses to believe that the girl is telling the truth…. The reality, however, leaves no illusions. This giant’s name is Kyma and she really has the skills that allow her to communicate with other living creatures. In the meantime, it turns out that not only the siblings know about the next giant inhabiting the earth and some steps have already been taken to neutralize it. Billionaire Calvin Crossland, who has gained power over the giant of destruction, Alyphar, controls the organization that the children, in collaboration with the newly met giant, have to face. The author of the script for the Giants seriesis Lylian and the artistic director is Paul Drouin. Drawings were prepared by Luisa Russo, colors by Lorien. So far, two volumes have been published and reviewed: Erin and Siegfried , Bora and Leap is another in this collection.
The star on the stage
Kyma is an eight-meter-long creature. She is an indestructible rock giant, and her innate abilities allow her to control the earth and minerals. In addition, it can turn into a rock ball and crush enemies. Kyma especially likes to tell stories (Leap is one of her listeners). The rock giant effectively shows her siblings what the speech of stones is (this, in turn, enables them to cause earthquakes). In the reviewed volume – Bora and Leap – we can see giants in a really large format and this is its unquestionable advantage. In addition, the comic books contain both the characters we met in previous volumes, the present ones (the heroes of Bora and Leap) and future ones – those we don’t know yet. We can only presume that since we see six children on the back cover – Erin, Siegfried, Bora, Leap, the other names will belong to the characters from the next volumes! We know for sure that the hero of the fourth will be the boy Célestin; so in the last one there will be a girl – a rebellious tomboy. It is such a small spoiler allowed by the creators and publishers.
Visually
The giants make an electrifying impression up close! Perhaps this is due to the extraordinary talent of Luisa Russo? The previous volumes were illustrated by other cartoonists: Paul Drouin ( Erin ) and James Christ ( Siegfried) , and I liked them too, but the graphically peer-reviewed book won my greatest sympathy. Bora and Leap shows in an extremely accessible way certain dysfunctions in the family, significantly affecting family relationships. Importantly, the relationship that connects siblings and influences the decisions made is also emphasized. In order to achieve the intended goal, the heroes must unite. Giantess requires both of them to start a new chapter in their lives. Thus, he tries to save them.
