There is blood, there are headlines … – “There is Blood …”

King of horror, master of pen, and one of the most prolific writers on the book market. Stephen King publishes at least one book a year, and sometimes two or more. It all depends on the form of the master and the volume of individual positions. This year, the market appeared Institute , and now we get into the hands of a collection of stories it is the blood … . For me, the review of this book is only my third encounter with King’s prose. So how did these stories turn out? You will find out in this review.

In the land of vast imagination

There is Blood … it is – as I mentioned in the introduction – a collection of short stories. In fact, its content consists of three short stories and one micro-novel ( There is Blood … ). Each of the texts is a show of the master’s imagination. Yes, there is not much horror here. We are more dealing with thrillers. Of course, there will also be some supernatural elements, but they are not meant to frighten, but rather to build an atmosphere that made me feel uncomfortable at times. In the first story, Mr. Harrigan ‘s Phone , we get the story of a phone and its owner. We observe the addiction of an old man, the joy of a child and some quite disturbing phenomena that take place after the death of the title Mr. Harrigan. In the next one (The Life of Chuck) we see the end of the world and some scenes from the life of a certain person. All this combined together gives us a rather disturbing picture and makes us think. The third text in the file is the previously mentioned is blood … D that fact we are dealing with a continuation of the themes of the outsider, so I will not summarize the plot, because why? The latest stories are called The Rat and describe a writer’s creative impotence, and the unusual source of his inspiration and the price he will have to pay for it. So as you can see, each text has been kept in a different style and classified into a different genre. Only the title micro-novel belongs to the horror movie, but not entirely either.

In the footsteps of a master pen

As befits a word master, King rose to the occasion. The book is a prose of the highest quality, which is influenced by, among others the author’s literary language. Each story influences the reader’s imagination, often suggesting dark, suggestive images. The descriptions of the actions, locations and characters are truly a real treat. King also described his heroes perfectly. Their creations, interior and often twisted motivations were drawn in such a realistic way that probably such people could live even now. King does not shy away from suspenseand redrawing certain scenes. He uses characteristic cliches, but combines them so skillfully that the reader does not feel the artificiality. Only a trained eye will find these fragments. The layman will not notice them at all. Besides, King’s prose is captivating. It absorbs the whole thing. And not because it is brilliantly written, but because it presents things that live somewhere on the edge of our self. Not in a Lovecraftian way , but in his, king’s one , which at the same time makes you feel happy and make you think about the meaning of life and whether the veil of reality has not been torn off, and if some strange and twisted ghosts are entering our plan through the gaps.

Overall, the book is a little masterpiece. Apart from King’s genius, one should appreciate the great work of translators and editors. There have been no lame translations, no typos or editorial errors. There are also no typos. In addition, applause is due to the publishing house for a great cover and a good composition of short stories.

All in all, I recommend this book to everyone because it is worth it. Do you like King or not, it doesn’t matter. The book will go to everyone. I recommend.
