The production with Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role was a huge success, bringing the creators equally huge earnings. In October last year, the actor revealed in an interview with The Playlist that the ideas for another Joker film appeared during the filming of the first part:
First, when we started recording, we thought [Joker – ed. ed.] is an interesting guy. There are things we could do with him and get to know him more. But are we really going to do it? I do not know.
Todd Phillips also revealed what the situation at the moment is related to the continuation of the Joker’s adventures:
This is the truth about the sequel: I spoke to Joaquin and when we travel the world with Warner Bros. executives to Toronto, Venice and other places, we have dinner together, they ask, “Have you thought about it?” But when it comes to contracts, there is no contract for us to write a sequel, we never officially asked Joaquin to be part of a sequel. I don’t know if this will happen.
