On the set of the second season of The Witcher, work is in full swing. Though Henry Cavill has returned to the studio to continue shooting there, the rest of the crew are still shooting outdoors.
Currently, the main center of photography is Fountains Abbey, where a scene involving magicians is filmed . In the sequences created there, we will see, among others Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Therica Wilson-Read (Sabrina), Lars Mikkelsen (Stregobor), MyAnna Buring (Taissa) and Mahesh Jadu (Vilgefortz). Eamon Farren will also appear at their side as Cahir, possibly held captive after the Battle of Sodden Hill. Today’s photos, however, shed new light on what could happen in the ruins.
The shots were taken by an anonymous observer who visited the ruins at night. According to his words, which are quoted on the Redanian Intelligence portal, the scene filmed at that time was attended by a large gathering of actors dressed in robes, which probably refers to the previously noticed magicians there .
At the end of a corridor decorated with a row of red flags, a structure that looked like an altar or monument was also spotted. In front of it (second photo, below), wrapped in blue foil, there is an executioner stump, which was also noticed by the photographer at night. It looks like the sequences shot at Fountains Abbey will be much more dramatic and spectacular than they first thought.
The photos slightly undermine previous theories that the plan was supposed to serve as the elven ruins of Shaerrawedd. At the moment, it seems much more likely that we are seeing the scenery of the ruins at Sodden Hill itself, and the events filmed there will take place right after the fighting ends. The hangman’s stump raises many more questions. Of course, one theory is that he is waiting for the captured Cahir, but this does not agree with the other images in which Farren is seen in the new armor of the Nilfgaardian , free and ready to fight.
Meanwhile, despite the lockdown in Great Britain (which lasted from November 4), the Witcher’s team is already shooting in the next location. This time they moved to the area of Frensham Little Pond in Surrey.
Observers noticed a large number of horses and carts and artificial snow. Filmmakers also use a blue background (which has the same application as green, so the image will be superimposed by computer). According to official information, the team will shoot in this location until November 13.
As a large part of the characters are occupied in Fountains Abbey, it seems likely that in Surrey we will see someone from the rest, e.g. Henry Cavill (Geralt), Freya Allan (Ciri) or finally Joey Batey (Dandelion) . It is very possible that this location will develop the plot of Kaer Morhen, where, according to Sapkowski’s books, Geralt and Ciri spent the winter. Cavill and Allan had already shot several scenes in different locations in England for Season Two (Deepcut, Blea Tarn, Gordale Scar and Janet’s Foss) and used artificial snow every time.
One theory is that in Frensham Little Pond we will see a book story from the Blood of the Elves , linking Geralt, Ciri and Triss (Anna Schaffer) with the dwarven warrior Yarpen Zigrin (Jeremy Crawford). And what do you think, what scenes will be shot by the lakes?
