They were quickly recognized as one of the best RPG developers, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is arguably the studio’s best game to date. The third game was going to be the last one for quite some time as CD Projekt Red wanted to expand and do something new with Cyberpunk 2077 . Five years after The Witcher 3, was released and it was a huge commercial success… but also in some respects one of the company’s biggest failures considering the state the game was released in. While it was an innovative and ambitious idea, the game was riddled with bugs and broken promises, leading to the studio having to spend years fixing and improving the expected design.
Next month, CD Projekt Red will release its only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 , Phantom Liberty , and then move on to new projects. As noted by VGC , CD Projekt Red’s CEO Adam Kiciński confirmed that nearly 260 people are already working on The Witcher 4 and plans to move a large part of the Phantom Liberty team to this title after the add-on is released. Around 300 people are currently working on the expansion, which means that there will probably be at least 300-400 people working on The Witcher 4 by the end of this year.

The Witcher 4 release date
At the moment we have no idea when The Witcher 4 will be released, but don’t expect it to be released before 2025. Pre-production of the game began last summer and has been in development ever since. CD Projekt Red intends to launch a new trilogy of games and plans to release all three within six years of the release of the first game.

However, the success of the Netflix series and the continued success of the third part may make CD Projekt return to Geralt, since he is such a beloved and iconic silhouette. There were also rumors about playing Ciri or Lambert, which would be quite an interesting solution. Most likely, however, we will be able to play as a completely new character, previously unrelated to the series of games and books. Looking at the photo promoting the new game, one can suspect that it will be The Witcher from the School of the Cat due to the characteristic medallion on it.
