Team is back again – review of the comic “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, vol. 2

Materiały Prasowe

The four famous turtles return in the second tome of their adventures! Will we get a bit more action this time?

Practice makes the perfect

After being introduced to the story, our heroes finally find Raphael and can unite. By the way, they start training under the supervision of Splinter. They also have the opportunity to face one of their enemies – Old Hob. Meanwhile, their friend has serious problems at school and has to ask for help from April. Finally, we can also meet a certain Hamato Yoshi, a representative of feudal Japan.

Rafael and others

As in the case of the first volume , also here the authors of the comic book are Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz, who were helped by Bobby Curnow this time. Let us remind you that the first writer is also a co-creator of the original anthropomorphic turtle adventures. Let us also add that we are dealing with a refreshed story, which is slightly different from the original.

The second volume is largely focused on Raphael, who is our center of events most of the time. It is he who, as found, is just beginning to get close to his brothers. However, he still has some difficulties and is much more likely to roam the city with his friend Casey Jones. It is also evident how Splinter takes care of all his “sons”. Skilful building of relations between the characters should be considered a big plus here. The story told by the rat master of martial arts is also quite interesting. The most important event of the volume, however, is the gift of turtles with their characteristic weapons and bands in various colors. Until now, all four of them wore red masks and the heroes could only be recognized by the shade of their skin. However, we are still in the process of introducing into this world, and the story goes very slowly. Let’s hope we get more action in the next issue of the comic.

The Past

Graphic side of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesthey look very good. Anyway, no wonder. Dan Duncan is again responsible for the drawings. As in the first volume, also this time the frames are saturated with colors, there are numerous details, and the fight scenes are presented dynamically. Both the turtles and the other heroes are exactly as we know and love. The fragments that take us to feudal Japan deserve additional praise. The costumes and buildings known from that period are faithfully reproduced here. As the threads of the past and the present intertwine with each other, the cartoonists used a different color palette so that we would not be mistaken at any time what year we are in. Although we would probably have managed without it, it is still nice that the reader was taken care of and the reception of the comic was made easier for him.

Replay and replay again

Once again, I have a few comments about the comic book edition itself. Yes, I am glad that the Amber publishing house reached for the refreshed adventures of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and thanks to this they hit our market. Unfortunately, the notebook is again too short to enjoy it fully. Before the adventure starts well, it is over, and we are left unsatisfied. Perhaps it would be best to collect all the planned six volumes and read them as a whole. For some, however, price may be an obstacle to achieving this goal. On the one hand, we get a beautifully issued hardcover notebook, on the other hand, however, it is more expensive for this reason, which will probably discourage some from buying.

We are willing to wait

The second volume of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles unites our heroes and begins their training under the supervision of a master. It also gives April and Casey the opportunity to get to know each other. In a way, it also introduces the main opponent of our brave reptiles to the plot. However, it still leaves a lot of dissatisfaction. Despite the aforementioned events, the plot doesn’t really move forward. The reader is still at the stage of introducing the story. So we have to wait for the next volume and hope that this time the story will finally move forward!
