A woman in dirty white robes, holding a dead baby in her arms – this description fits the heroine of Mexican tales about La Llorona, The Tear. Most often it can be found in the vicinity of water reservoirs, but it should be remembered that we must avoid her company at all costs. Crying brings death with it.
Stories of strange content
Crying was once an ordinary woman, yearning for love and care. A rich man who accidentally passed through a poor village where she lived became a chance for a better life for María. The young people loved each other, and from this love two sons were born. However, the time of her youth passed quickly and María lost her beauty. Soon after, her husband stopped being interested in her and left with his young lover. Abandoned by her beloved, the woman had to take care of raising her two sons on her own. Unfortunately, the lack of support resulted in a mental disorder. He made María decide to drown her own children. Legends say that from this traumatic moment, La Llorona wanders the wetlands in search of the bodies of her sons. At the same time, it makes those it meets unhappy. Crying is also looking for children among the living, shouting: “¡Ay, mis hijos!” or “¿Donde estan mis hijos?”. Another heroine of Mexican tales has a similar story: La Malinche (Malinalli).

A few words to begin with
A meltwater. The Curse of La Llorona is not the first production in which such a heroine was created. To create another portrait of Płaczka, director Michael Chavas has collaborated with screenwriters Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis. The main producer of the event was James Wan, the director of such films as Saw , Dead Silence , Insidious and Presence . Marisol Ramirez played the title character. This is her film debut in the lead role. The second person worth mentioning is Linda Cardellini, who plays Anna Tate-Garcia, mother of two children who are threatened by La Llorona’s curse. In the past, the actress became popular with the role of Velma in a series of films about Scooby Dooand Samantha Taggart in ER . The story takes place in the 1970s in Los Angeles. It all starts there. How will it end? Only those who are privy to the plot will find out.

Is it terrifying to the bone?
Anne Tate-Garcia is a social worker. One of the cases she investigates focuses on a single woman with children. Her strange behavior worries the heroine. One day, Anne finds boys locked in a closet while candles are lit all over the house and the furniture is decorated with talismans – all to chase away the demon. The social worker is forced to take the children from the lost mother, which unfortunately leads to a disastrous end. La Llorona will not rest until she takes the children she has chosen. The story told at the beginning of the film begins the story of the Tear. Sooner or later, we’ll see references to the Presence series in The Curse of La LloronaWana. The film is a spin-off that is supposed to bring big money. Has it been possible? For sure. It is worth noting, however, that while the Presencegained the reputation of a high-class horror film, we cannot say that about this production. One of the most primitive scare methods used by the developers are jumpscare. Unfortunately, during the screening, no one (or maybe one person will be found?) Will not jump up on the home armchair, nor can you count on tearing your hair from your head at the sight of bony fingers, a dirty dress and a threatening face. I regret that the Mexican-like fictional potential was not used. The local legends make La Llorona a very vivid hero. And to make it more fun, the filmmakers decided to introduce the character of a priest (actually an ex-) who is an introvert and eccentric in one person. It is he who mentions the murderous doll, known from the Wan universe.

We frighten, we do not sleep
Squeaky floor, stairs and doors as well, and light bulbs? Well, you don’t know? They work badly. In total, we are able to predict the plot almost from the beginning to the end. And nothing, absolutely nothing, will surprise us. On the cover of the DVD we find a quote from Manna Del Rosa, the film critic, that describes the Curse of La Lloronaas ghastly and terrifying. We can disagree with this statement or vice versa – who likes what. On the DVD, we have a choice of languages (English, Polish, Russian, Turkish; subtitles: mentioned and Croatian, Estonian, Icelandic, Lithuanian, Latvian, Slovenian). In addition, the creators decided to provide an interesting add-on – “Creating a movie monster”. It is a video showing what the characterization of the antagonist looked like. The recipient can imagine how many people had to work for La Llorona to frighten with its image, although in the pictures.
