The Little Mermaid won’t hit theaters until May 26, but Disney is going underwater with a new take on the live-action version of the 1989 animated film.
The remake by Oscar-nominated director Rob Marshall ( Chicago , Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns ) stars Halle Bailey (from sister R&B duo Chloe x Halle) as the underwater princess Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King ( Little Women) as Prince Eric, Daveed Diggs ( Hamilton) as grumpy Sebastian, Awkwafina (Marvel’s Shang-Chi ) as Scuttle the bird, Jacob Tremblay ( Peace ) as Ariel’s best friend Florek, Javier Bardem ( No Country for Old Men) as Ariel’s father, King Triton and Melissa McCarthy ( Bridesmaids ) as the sea witch Ursula.
New footage of Bailey’s rendition of the iconic Part of Your World shows Ariel and Eric’s sweet reunion by the ocean, a deal with Ursula that will leave a mermaid speechless, and a fiery showdown between a sea witch and the ruler of the Atlantic.
This movie means a lot to me, I’ve watched it since I was a little girl. I think going into the role, I told myself I could be proud of myself. If I make the little girl in me happy, then I know I’ve done a good job and I know I’m doing my best. I just gave it my all and hope people get something good out of this story.
