The creator of The Mandalorian, Jon Favreau, recently said that he hopes for a 5th season of the series. Potentially dreams that the series could go on forever! You can judge this from Favreau’s comments about his love of bringing history to life.
Off season 4? Yes… Well, I hope so! I really love the dynamics of these two characters who theoretically never age. I think there’s a lot of potential energy in this relationship, especially since the baby is no longer a baby and is starting to grow – but it’s happening so slowly that we could really play it out, hopefully for a while. But it all depends on the audience whether they like what we do. As long as they want it, we do it, and it’s a fun performance that I don’t want to walk away from.
– confessed Favreau when asked by Film Stories whether the series has a future
While Lucasfilm is known for announcing projects while they are still in their early stages, which sometimes results in those projects being delayed or rejected altogether, the studio is a bit more meticulous about its TV series. While Favreau has confirmed that he has written the script for season 4, Disney+ has not confirmed that this season will actually move forward.
These comments echo similar remarks made by the filmmaker, saying he didn’t write season 4 as the end of the storyline.
No no. I think the beauty of it is that it’s the middle chapter of a much bigger story. And while we’ll have a resolution to the plot of these characters over time (…) I don’t mean the finale we’re heading towards. On the contrary, I love when these stories go on endlessly. So these characters could potentially be with us for a while, and I really love telling their stories and love the way their adventures unfold, I’m looking forward to doing much more.
