The first production since 2009 in the universe of Friday the 13th is coming . Screenwriter Bryan Fuller is working with Peacock on the series entitled Crystal Lake .
As Variety reports , Victor Miller, the writer of the first Jason movie, is participating in the new project as executive producer and consultant. The series will produce the A24 for NBCUniversal, whose chairwoman, Susan Rovner, shared some information with viewers:
Friday the 13th is one of the most iconic horror franchises in film history, and we’ve done our best to come back to that story with our series Crystal Lake. We look forward to working with Bryan Fuller – a talented, visionary creator with whom I have had the pleasure to be friends and work with.
One thing about the show is for sure – we will not see Jason’s hockey mask, which won the audience’s sympathy in the third part. Where did this decision come from? Sean S. Cunningham, the film producer, still holds the rights to all titles released after the first film. This means that elements from episodes from the second inclusive cannot appear in the series, unless NBCUniversal signs some agreement with Cunningham. Unfortunately, he does not live in good relations with Victor Miller, so such an agreement is unlikely to take place.
So far, nothing specific is known about the plot of the prequel. Fans suspect he will be focusing on Jason’s mother or his childhood.
