Sequel of Captain Marvel entitled The Marvels should had been out on February 17th, 2023, but due to delays, the premiere was postponed to July 28th, 2023. Ant-Man and the Wasp : Quantumania was due to be released that day , so Marvel Studios and The Walt Disney Company decided to switch the release dates of both productions. Thus, we will be able to see the adventures of Ant-Man and the Wasp earlier in February, and The Marvels five months later.
Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly star in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania . In addition, the cast also includes Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Jonathan Majors (known to Loki fans ) as Kang the Conqueror, Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang (already the third actress playing Cassie) and Bill Murray, who he himself mentioned that he was going to play some villain.
Evangeline Lilly recently shared her impressions about the production in an interview for The Digital Fix:
We finished shooting at the end of November and I think it was the hardest we did. It was the toughest because it’s the only production we’ve been working on during the coronavirus lockdowns. This caused so many complications in the production of the film. It caused a lot of stress. It made things impersonal because you couldn’t see the faces of others.
The actress added that:
Movie sets are already impersonal enough, so many things are happening and so many things are to be done in a short amount of time that the intensity level is very, very high. This is why working on a movie with coronavirus restrictions was such a tiring experience. Anyway, I think what we shot, the material we managed to get, is the best we’ve ever produced.
The Marvels is a very important project for Marvel Studios, but also for the Marvel Cinematic Universe itself . Not only is it linked to the two Marvel series on Disney + , but it is also the sequel to the 2019 movie Captain Marvel , which was a huge success and brought equally huge profits. Brie Larson as Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel), Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau will play the three main characters . All three have an inner bond with each other in the comics, especially Carol and Monica, whose relationship is very complicated.
Nia DaCosta, the production director, did an interview with Inverse where she talked a bit about The Marvels :
It’s interesting, we’ve thought about it for a long time and worked on it for a long time, how to fit three really large, fascinating characters into a two-hour movie. Captain Marvel already has a story from a previous movie, Kamala will have her series “Ms. Marvel” and we only saw Monica Rambeau for a moment on “WandaVision”. A big part of what we were thinking about was, what part of the story do we have to tell about each of them? How will we be able to respect the canonical part of the story, while making the heroines equal to each other?
