Filming for the second season of Netflix’s “The Witcher” has recently ended. For fans of the world created by Andrzej Sapkowski, it meant two things – the ever closer premiere of new episodes of production with Henry Cavill and the start of work on the prequel. Unfortunately, the creators of “The Witcher: Blood Origin” already have a big problem ahead of them.
Via Deadline, Netflix has announced the retirement of Jodie Turner-Smith. The actress was to play Éila, the main female character of Blood Origin . As the reason, the representative of the streaming giant cited Turner-Smith’s tight schedule. Laurence O’Fuarain continues to play the second lead role.
In the published statement, we can read that due to changes in the work plan for The Witcher’s prequel, the production began to overlap with the actress’s other projects. For this reason, she was forced to give up the series for Netflix. The developers will now have to find a replacement quickly to avoid further delays.
According to the official character description of Éil, it was the queen’s former guardsman. She gave up her old duties to live like traveling musicians. However, when the situation on the continent starts to get inflamed, the heroine takes up her arms again.
Action Witcher: Blood Origin takes place 1200 years before the adventures of Geralt. The series will tell the forgotten story of the first Weidźmin. The picture will consist of six episodes. Declan de Barra is to act as showrunner and executive producer. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will also become the producer, and Andrzej Sapkowski – as in the case of the first series – will be the consultant.
