The Book Gallery has just launched the newest item in the popular series for young people.
Today, the novel The Storm Messenger – the latest book for young people, published as part of the Rick Riordan Presents imprint, has hit store shelves . Like the previous items in this series, it is inspired by ancient mythologies. This time, the readers will get to know the Mayan culture. The publishing house Galeria Ksiażki is responsible for introducing the title to the Polish market, which writes about the novel as follows:
Audacious heroes, insidious gods, murderous demons and vigorous giants – these are just some of the attractions that await the reader of this original, humorous story based on Mayan mythology, as tasty as a cup of real, thick, hot chocolate.
The Storm Messenger is also another position that our editorial office has decided to take under the media patronage. However, if that’s not encouraging enough, check out Rick Riordan’s introduction.
Zane Obispo has a pretty cool life.
He has been home-schooled since last year, which means that kids at school don’t have a chance to bully him.
He can also wander for hours in the deserts of New Mexico, with his faithful dog, the Dalmaker Rosie.
His mom loves him most of all, and Uncle Hondo is a nice roommate, though maybe he’s a little too addicted to professional wrestling and spicy chips.
As for neighbors, they only have two. The amiable Mr. Ortiz grows top-secret varieties of chili peppers in the garden, and Mrs. Cab works as a telephone fairy and pays Zane for help. Not bad, right?
Did I mention the volcano behind Zane’s house?
That’s right – Zane has his own volcano. He and Rosie spend a lot of time on it. Recently, they even found a hidden entrance …
Oh yeah, life is beautiful!
Or maybe Zane was born with legs that didn’t match. He’s always had one shorter than the other, so he limps
and has to rest on his cane. However, he learns to deal with it
and can hobble really quickly.
Oh, and something else … Zane has just been accepted into a new private school. He doesn’t want to go there, but his mother cares a lot about
it. Lessons start the next day.
Then there is a plane crash – Zane witnesses a private plane crash into a volcano crater. It’s so close he can see the pilot’s face… but either it’s an excellent Halloween mask or there’s a zombie from another
planet at the controls .
On top of all this, a pretty new girl appears at school – Brooks – and warns Zane that he is in mortal danger. Meanwhile, according to the school’s student register,
Brooks does not exist. Anyway, how does she know Zane’s name?
Soon, Zane discovers that nothing in his life is
what he thought it would be. There is a reason he was born with a shorter leg. There is a reason why he never met his father –
the mysterious man with whom my mother fell in love during a trip to the Yucatan. Something very strange is happening at
Zane’s volcano , and Brooks says it’s all related to some
ancient prophecy.
How much do you know about the Mayan myths? And did you know the Maya have a chocolate goddess? (And why don’t the Greeks have a chocolate goddess? It’s really not fair!) The Maya also have
shapeshifters, demons, sorcerers, giants, demigods,
and underworld, which may be
accessed at the back of the local taco bar (or maybe somewhere else) .
JC Cervantes will take you on a journey you will never forget – through the darkest, strangest and funniest
corners of Mayan mythology. You will meet the most terrible gods
imaginable, the most terrifying inhabitants of the underworld, and unique – and utterly unobvious
– heroes who must save our world from destruction.
Mayan myths and magic are closer than you think – because they
are actually waiting right outside the house.
Welcome to the volcano.
