The Fire Keeper is a sequel to The Storm Messenger by JC Cervantes. The book is published in the Rick Riordan series. It presents a YA fantasy for children and teenagers, based on the Mayan mythology. The premiere will take place on April 15.
The description comes from the publisher:
Zane Obispo’s new life on a beautiful, secluded tropical island, among family and friends, seems like an idyll. The boy is frustrated by the fact that he cannot control the recently acquired powers related to fire (he inherited them from his father, the Mayan god Hurakan, who is now in a prison cell). In addition, there had been a painful distance between him and his dog since Rosie became a Hellhound. Zane also has no idea how to deal with the feeling he harbors for shapeshifter Brooks.
The boy puts these worries aside, however, to focus on saving Hurakan. It is not easy, because in fact the island is a prison you cannot escape from. Worse still, by writing a book about his not-so-enjoyable adventures with the Mayan gods, Zane unknowingly endangered other half-divine children. If he fails to find them before the gods, they will be captured and killed. Racing against time, Zane faces an impossible choice: to save the godborn or to save his father, who is in more danger than he first realizes. The boy wants to save them all at all costs. Will he be able to accomplish these two impossible tasks in secret from the gods, or will he be an indweller of the afterlife?
In the colorful sequel to the Storm Messenger, its heroes return, but there are also new and interesting characters. We have Aztec gods, Mayan monarchs, unbelievable alliances, surprising twists and mysteries darker than Zane could ever imagine. Secrets that will change him forever.
