This is the fourth installment of Ghostbusters . The first two from the 1980s became iconic. It was decided to refresh the series in 2016, replacing Aykroyd and Co. with four ladies, which met with (to put it mildly) mixed reactions. Even the involvement of Melissa McCarthy and Chris Hemsworth, or Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd in episodic roles, did not help. The reboot was unsuccessful, so plans for a direct follow-up were abandoned.
It looked like it would be difficult to revive this project. However, the creators did not give up and tried to “evoke this spirit” again. Except that it is rather a “Kacper ghost”. Starring young actors such as Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd. However, the old guard was not forgotten. They will reappear in their former roles – Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts.
Fans count on the atmosphere of the first Ghostbusters. Producers count on the nostalgia of the fans. That is why the new part is a continuation of those from the 1980s. Its director – Jason Reitman is the son of Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two films. Jason grew up on the set of these productions. Ernie Hudson said:
Jason Reitman – who was actually in the second film, was the kid opening the second film and I just remember being on set on both films. So I know he grew up with them, it’s very personal to him, he wrote an amazing script and established himself as a director himself.
But when it did, it was the first time on set – seeing Sigourney Weaver, Bill and Dan, frankly, was almost spiritual. I mean, I know it sounds weird, but it really touched me. I was very touched. “
Due to financial reasons, the premiere was postponed again, this time to June 11, 2021 (the first film in the series premiered on June 8, 1984). Producers know that when summer starts, people are more likely to go to the movies. So almost a year the movie will be on the shelf. Will aging add flavor to it? We will see.
