The picture goes round – review of the game “Round and round”

At the beginning of

The last novelty, Round and round, was created by Spartaco Albertarelli, and the illustrations were made by Elena Prette. In an inconspicuous box there are seventy-seven round cards and an instruction. One side of the cardboard has a large white letter on a blue patterned background, and on the other side there are several pictures. It seems as if the proposal is poor and uninteresting at all. However, do not be deceived by the dimensions, because maybe the box is small, but it has a lot of power! Everything is made with attention to detail and you have to admit that the pictures really please the eye. Perfect color selection. Everything is arranged so that no matter how we look. You can even decode an object upside down.

Let’s sit at the table

There are several ways to play. The basic option is as follows. We shuffle the cards and put them on a pile with letters face up. Then one person takes the first card and turns it face up. Now everyone is looking for an item beginning with the letter that is on the pile. Whoever gives the right answer first takes the cardboard. If no word can be found, the round is forfeited. You can also use the challenge option. If the participant sees no answer, he may shout: challenge! Then the rest must find an answer within 10 seconds. If someone succeeds, he takes the card, and the calling player loses the next turn, if not, the calling player takes the card. You can also make the rules more difficult, e.g. accepting only nouns. A turn ends when someone has five cards.

This is how the rules recommended by the manufacturer are clarified. Now a few words about my feelings. At the very beginning you have to shuffle the cards very well. The letters repeat themselves, and guessing a word for the same letter several times in a row can be a bit weary. It is also good to establish a few rules with each other so that there is no understatement later. It’s a nice idea not to overuse the word for the letter, e.g. z – animal. This situation happened to us several times and the round was very short. We played the two of us (coronavirus is here) and had fun until the stack was exhausted.

I must admit that I approached the title with limited enthusiasm. I was expecting medium pleasure, and got… great fun! I was really surprised. I do not count how many times we laughed while coming up with solutions and looking for a word that would fit. Sometimes there were such verbal jumble that it was a shame to write. The party lasted about 30-40 minutes (it all depended on the state of mirth). This is a game we compete in, but in a relaxed atmosphere. We stopped paying attention to who has how many cards and we focused on pictures. I chose the title of the future to play with my son someday, and it turned out that adults can also really have fun while competing.

A minus appeared

The only disadvantage that may or may not be a problem is the size of the cards with more players. Someone sitting further away may not be able to see all the pictures clearly because some are really tiny.

And finally …

In conclusion, I recommend it. If you like word puzzles and looking for solutions in your head, this is for you. During the game, you have a good time and enjoy yourself like a little child. Dynamic, perceptive and reflexive fun is the perfect idea for spending an interesting evening.
