Macabre and humor have always gone hand in hand. Probably for this reason, with the birth of the most famous sitcoms, two family series appeared on American television at the same time, in which the main characters were characters inspired by monsters known from horror movies. One of them, of course, was the Addams Family . The second series was The Munsters in Poland, also known as The Potwornicki Family .
The first series was broadcast on CBS from 1964 to 1968. The starring roles were played by Fred Gwynne, Yvonne De Carlo and Al Lewis. Later, two films were made – Munster, Go Home! and The Munsters` Revenge . In the 1980s, The Munsters Today appeared with a new cast, and later with yet another cast, the 1995 television movie, Here Come the Munsters . The whole story became a cult all over the world and it enjoys great popularity to this day.
According to Murphy’s Multiverse, Universal studio chose Rob Zombie known, among others. from directing the films Halloween (2007) and Halloween II (2009) to create a cinematic film based on the famous monster sitcom.
The shooting of the film is slated to start in May 2021 in Budapest. One of the main roles – Lily Munster – is to be played by the wife of director Sheri Moon Zombie. Her husband Herman will be played by Jeff Daniel Phillips, known for such productions as The Lords of Salem and 3 from Hell , for which Zombie was also responsible. The cast also includes Daniel Roebuck, Richard Brake and the star of the series Lost Jorge Garcia and known for the title role in the film Elvira, the ruler of darkness Cassandra Peterson. So it promises to be an interesting production, which will not lack references to various types of horror movies with elements of comedy.
We have not known the release date yet, but given that shooting will begin soon, it is possible that the new The Munsters will debut next year.
