DC’s cinematic revolution led by James Gunn and Peter Safran is coming. New productions include the continuation of the Matt Reeves saga, including the Batman (2022) spin-off , The Penguin . New photos from the set have surfaced online.
Warner Bros. Discovery is working at full speed on the development of the DC Universe after hiring the duo of James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new co-presidents of DC Studios. The two developers are preparing a major overhaul of the DCU while developing DC Elseworlds projects such as Joker: Folie a Deux and Matt Reeves ‘ The Batman Universe . Reeves is currently filming a Penguin-centric spin-off series. The action takes place between the plot of Batman (2022) and Batman 2 , the film that we will see in 2025. Colin Farrell reprises his role as a gangster, and new actors join the cast, such as Cristin Milioti who will play Sofia Falcone. Farrell and Milioti were recently spotted working on The Penguin. In the photos you can see both actors in their make-ups, made to a high level.
What’s Reeves planning with Batman ?
Matt is working on Batman 2 , which he treats as a Batman crime saga that also includes the Penguin series. This is a separate project I am working on intensively. He recently introduced us to some amazing and really cool ideas. Our plan is to continue working on this project.

Reeves’ second Batman was officially announced by Gunn and Safran, presenting a schedule of DC- related projects . The release date is set for October 3, 2025. The director himself has already talked about plans to develop the character from the first Batman .
This is a very forward-looking noir Batman story. It focuses a lot on his character and I hope it will be a story that is both gripping and emotional. It’s more Batman in detective mode than anything we’ve seen in the movies so far. There are many such stories in comics. Batman is supposed to be the best detective in the world, and that wasn’t necessarily present in the movies. I would like this story to be one where, while following the criminals and trying to solve the crime, his character can transform.
