One, two, three, Baba Yaga is watching!
Heroes from the world of pop culture come to life many times in our imagination. The way in which they are remembered by us, however, is not entirely possible to explain. Esther, once you get to know her, is impossible to forget – perhaps because her story evokes mixed feelings in the recipient and mixes so much in the classics of the genre. The film proposal is undoubtedly unique and should be remembered as such. Enriching the biography of a lonely girl with new events is a procedure that will certainly not appeal to all fans of the series. And what is our rating? You’ll find out soon!
Getting to know myself
Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman) was actually given a different name once. In addition, the girl locked up in a psychiatric facility in Estonia was described as one of the most dangerous. If you watched Orphan from 2009, you probably remember how ruthless she could be. In The Birth of Evil , together with the director and screenwriter, we look for the reason and wonder if the heroine’s story could have turned out differently. So when Esther flees Estonia, we subconsciously fear for those who will want to help her. The Albright family, grieving the loss of their daughter, is in danger…
The doubts of potential audiences are probably raised by the employment of the same actress as in the previous film. The creators were probably afraid that they would not be able to find the right girl for the role of Esther. Unfortunately, the adopted solution will not satisfy everyone – Esther, despite the make-up, looks older than the titular orphan. It should also be remembered that in the future, viewers may watch the films in a different order – first the genesis, then the main part. Then the differences in the age of the actress will be even more conspicuous.

One-man theater?
The story tells about the beginnings of Esther’s mental illness. The viewer may be terrified by the way the girl tries to solve problems beyond her control. She gains the trust of strangers again, knowing that she can lose it so easily. For the benefit of the title orphan, there is another antagonist in the story (I will not reveal his gender at the moment …). His role allows you to look at Esther a bit more favorably – after all, even completely normal (and quite honest) people make irreparable mistakes. Unfortunately, all in all , the film was completely devoid of atmosphere (which is probably a consequence of a poor script …). The main actress coped with her role great, the other actors – average. The finale is not surprising and leaves you unsatisfied.
Summary
an orphan. I recommend Birth of Evil especially to those viewers who haven’t watched Jaume Collet-Serra and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick’s great proposal from 2009. Others as well, but maybe as a screening at home, if you don’t have any other suggestions up your sleeve.
