The Parkers are barely making ends meet – comic book review “Amazing Spider-Man. Epic Collection: Inferno “

This time Egmont takes us to the end of the crazy 1980s. Times are as distant as they are attractive in terms of the comic books that were created at that time. 1989 Spider-Man is a college student, newly married husband, part-time photographer, and a really busy guy. And of course, maybe most of all, a superhero who has to defend America’s honor this time!

An epic collection

Comics is the next volume of the collection published by Egmont Polska under the title Epic Collection . This collection of picture novels is important because it restores the works of cartoonists from quite old times (in this case from the 1980s), allowing modern readers to get to know the true masterpieces of the Marvel publishing house . Beautiful drawings, brilliant dialogues, unique atmosphere, and a large volume and hard cover. The most annoying thing about most comics I read is that they are instantly transient. Usually, dealing with a large volume of a picture novel takes up to two hours. In the case of Infernowe get almost 500 pages of decent story, and going through it really means a lot of time. Time and, above all, a great adventure!

Old but gold

Can a comic book from over thirty years ago appeal to the modern reader? Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun with modern work. Inferno is humor, action, surprising brutality for the adventures of the Spider Man, and at the same time the unique atmosphere of New York. In addition, the novel allows us to see the problems of a young married couple in probably the most famous decade of American history of the 20th century. Together with Peter and Mary Jane Watson, we experience relocations, financial difficulties, and attempts to find a better job. In a word, we see Spider-Mandespite his supernatural powers, he is no different from many of us. Daily problems make Peter Parker seem like an average person. These are the features that made Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man a favorite hero of American youth. In today’s releases, this pattern of a local hero is somewhat fading away. Here, however, you can see it very clearly.

Assassin Nation or Inferno ?

The only thing that surprises me about the Polish edition of this comic book is the decision to change the title of the volume. In the original, it is called Assassin Nation , which refers to the main story contained in the collection. Here, the publishers decided to name the whole thing Inferno , which refers only to a short excerpt from the larger plot contained at the beginning of the volume. The choice is not very understandable to me, but it is not mine. However, I would like to note that it is on The Assassin Nation Plotpay great attention while reading. A great, intricate story about espionage, the FBI, the CIA, US foreign policy, and our favorite Spider-Man involved in all of this (which is not done for money…). As you might have guessed from the cover, we even meet Captain America here!

A comic with lots of accessories

Despite the really large volume, it’s hard to break away from Inferno even for a moment. The creators have created an atmosphere that draws you in and does not let go from the first page to the last page. Of course, as is the case with mass editions, we also get a large dose of interesting additions. In this case, it is a short essay Parallel Lives on Peter and Mary Jane by Peter Sanderson. The very center of the volume is also a humorous ranking of the worst villains by Spider-Man himself. When it comes to traditional comics, Inferno will allow us to watch clashes with such celebrities as Scorpion, Venom, Green Goblin, HobGoblin, Doctor Octopus, Lizard, Mysterio, Rhino … In short, almost all of the Spider’s archers are here!

Parker has a hard time

A great, beautifully published collection. We meet a whole galaxy of Spider-Man’s arch enemies, we cooperate with Captain America, we learn the history of Parker from scratch, and we follow the ordinary life of Peter and MJ Problems with work, preparations for holidays, walks – all this creates the unique atmosphere of New York, for which I love these stories. Plus a large volume (almost 500 pages!). Brilliant comic.

Nasza ocena: 9/10

Back to the past with Peter Parker. The 1980s in New York, problems with work, preparations for holidays, science ... and in the background clashes with Venom! This is Spider-Man's life.
