The orcs are coming! – review of the comic book “The World of Aquilon. Orcs and goblins. Turuk”, vol. 1

In the World of Aquilon, Nicolas Jarry has so far focused on brave dwarves and elves. Now it’s time to let the brutal, cruel orcs have their say. Was it right that one of the series was devoted to the greenskins?

Greenskins vs. ghouls

Turuk wakes up in an unknown city. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s on an island and orcs don’t like water. This is not the end of the problems, because someone shoots him with a bow, and when he hides underground, he finds out what happened to the inhabitants of this city. Well, people turned into ghouls. The first volume of Orcs and Goblins tells the story of an attempt to survive in a settlement overrun by creatures resembling typical zombies. Overall, while reading this comic, especially during certain scenes, I couldn’t help but feel like I was watching I Am Legend in a fantasy world. Although there is also an interesting motif of the fragile alliance between the greenskins and the prison guard chasing them. Unfortunately, although the adventure was interesting, the ending was disappointing throughout. According to the assurances at the end of the volume, individual parts of this series will be independent stories, and I would like to find out how Turuk got out of the mess he fell into at the end of this comic. Unfortunately, all that remains is the protagonist’s assurance that this is not how his story ended.

Handsome orc face

When it comes to the graphics, it is worth paying attention primarily to the orcs’ ugly faces and the protagonist’s distinctive face. It is immediately obvious that he is not a pure-blooded orc. Therefore, it is not surprising that representatives of the fair sex can succumb to his charm. The first comic book from the Gods and Goblins series is the shortest in the entire World of Aquilon . Instead, at the end there are sketches of characters who will appear in subsequent volumes. And if I’m honest, each of the next five protagonists promises to be an even more interesting character than Turuk. I’m especially looking forward to the adventures of the goblins, including the thief Myth. Moreover, from the short text preceding the sketches you can learn what led to the creation of the series dedicated to the greenskins.

Is it worth devoting a separate series to green-skinned villains?

Orcs and goblins are another interesting story taking place in the world of Aquilon . This story wasn’t as good as the dwarven-centric epics, but it was good that the authors gave a voice to the greenskins as well. Usually this breed is presented in a negative light and here too we cannot expect anything good from them. Nevertheless, such a Turuk, although he is a scoundrel, may be able to arouse sympathy in the reader thanks to his handsome appearance, for an orc. I was certainly very interested in the short descriptions of the subsequent characters from this series. I will be looking forward to the second volume, because the protagonist will be a goblin who deals in thievery and resembles Styx from the computer game Styx. Master of shadows .
