A sanctuary is a place where animals can feel safe. In this land, located in a remote corner of the Earth, there is a Magic Tree that regularly fulfills the wishes of the inhabitants. The dream of Klara's abdomen can change the lives of her relatives forever.
What do you really care about?
The inhabitants of the Sanctuary are used to the beautiful weather which allows them a peaceful existence. The Magic Tree not only fulfills wishes, but also protects the place from the evil of the outside world. Klara, a young possum, dreams of seeing snow, and what goes with it – making a snowman and fighting snowballs with her friends. Despite the warnings, the heroine tears the last leaf off the Magic Tree and expresses her dream. The perennial plant dies, and with it – the Sanctuary. No, it’s not that dramatic. The land does not die right away, but freezes … at an alarming rate. Only Klara, her sister Paula and the lizard Yarra can save the inhabitants’ dreams of the future.

Protect your future
Endangered species live in the Sanctuary. Initially, we do not know if there is anyone else in the world, because every glance behind the horizon causes anxiety in the viewers. The Dead Magic Tree heralds the imminent end of the world – animals accustomed to heat will not survive in a cold climate. The plot of this Australian proposal seems sensible, but I’m not sure if this is how the viewer perceives it. And I am certainly not convinced that the youngest viewers will understand the meaning of the story. The fairy tale is marked as having no age limits , but some of its elements would be classified as “horror”. During the screening I was at, all the children left the room, and the parents – which probably will not surprise anyone – with them.

The world presented
The appearance of the heroes is questionable. They don’t look like classic Disney characters, it’s true, but I can’t help feeling that there is something wrong with their looks. The main character, the abbey Klara, does not look like a girl in terms of appearance, clothes, and behavior. The appearance of other characters is also the effect of overworking the graphics – characters are ironed and have little in common with their real counterparts. The world created by Richard Cussó and Peter Ivan is fantastically colorful and would surely convince many young audiences if not for the above-mentioned plot elements.
