The announcement came just weeks after developer NetherRealm Studios – the game’s creator – revealed that after two years of supporting the title and creating a DLC for it, he would focus on the next project.
In addition to the series’ sales figures, Warner Bros. Games also shared the information that the mobile version of the title, Mortal Kombat Mobile , has been installed on a total of 138 million devices. The same announcement also stated that millions of players are actively playing the franchise production on consoles and mobile, although no details were given in this case.
It is also not clear how many of these 12 million copies sold are used on individual platforms and in what versions (for example, we have Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath ).
At the moment, it is not known what NetherRealm Studios plans are for its latest part of the series and the game in general. Speculation is multiplying that Injustice 3 will finally be announced soon , while after the Discovery-WarnerMedia merger, questions still arise about the future of the studio. For its part, Warner Bros. Games has made it clear that the creators of the Mortal Kombat franchise will remain part of the larger company.
Mortal Kombat 11 is currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, and PC.
