The problem of Cornelius Coot
Who would have thought that a Scrooge cared more for the title of the richest duck in the world than for the wealth he has. Due to the arrival of a certain Maharaja, who decides to fund a monument to the founder of Duckburg, he begins to be called the richest inhabitant of the globe. This, of course, cannot withstand the Scrooge, and it comes to a confrontation! Apart from the construction of the Coot monument, the competition goes further and the monument to the multi-billionaires themselves is being built. In the title story, we find a certain moral which shows us where the constant competition for reputation and title is leading. Of course, all this is sprinkled with a large dose of humor, because when the Scrooge has a chance to share his money and show his better side, he begins to complain that he cannot afford waste, and he has devoted almost one entire safe to the construction of the monument.
An interesting issue in the case of this edition may be the very role of monuments. Of course, various types of sculptures are transferred to the pictorial world of ducks, but here Barks drew these statues in such a way that they presented the importance of their founders. This is not just a simple drawing that serves as a backdrop to the action, but a real display of graphic art.
Additional stories
The other stories are also very interesting. The Poor Old Duck is a comic book about Scrooge’s nostalgia for money, as he reveals to us how a Scrooge floats cash. Right next to it I have Two Coffees – a one-page story in which the Scrooge, despite his stinginess, tries to share free coffee with the needy poor . The Golden Helm , on the other hand, tells about the search for the title treasure and shows the legend of the artifact that gives power over North America.
We will also find many stories relating to Christmas. Practically ⅓ of the volume are stories kept in this atmosphere. Among them we can find, among others: A Beautiful Christmas Tree , A Pre -Christmas Tale , Under the Mistletoe , Wish List , and the Loud Cowboy . I think releasing this comic in the Christmas era was a really good decision.
This is not the end
In addition to comics, we will also meet numerous additions in the form of alternative covers and paintings by Carl Barks. At the end of the volume there is also a lexicon of the most important guests who visited Calisota. In turn, at the very beginning we are dealing with a mini-guide about the most important buildings in Kaczgorod. So we will read about the Kaczogrodzka Hall and the Scrooge Treasury, which rise above the city. We will also receive valuable information about the most important monuments. It is a pity that there was no map that could make an ordinary reader or, in other words, a tourist in Duckburg, realize exactly where such attractions are located. Something like the Donald city map that was added to the popular Disney magazine in the 1990s. Due to the interesting introduction and a few stories, I can say that this volume is really interesting and stands out among others.
