The first details of the game were shared in a press release on the Embracer website .
The upcoming title will be an open-world MMO adventure set in Middle-earth, featuring beloved stories from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit literary trilogy . The game is in the early stages of development, and the work on the title is led by Amazon Games Orange County – the creators of the popular MMO game New World . Amazon Games will release the game globally for PC and consoles. Additional information, including a release date, will be announced at a later date.

This is another milestone for Amazon Games, which is extremely diligent in its approach to games developed by internal studios, as well as the release of high-quality games from third-party developers. The new yet-to-be-titled Lord of the Rings game continues Amazon Games’ growing momentum in game publishing and development. The company is responsible for the original MMO New World and the release of the action RPG Lost Ark from Smilegate RPG. Both games topped the charts on Steam and Twitch, and continue to nurture a strong gaming community. Amazon also announced publishing deals with NCSOFT for Throne and Liberty , Bandai Namco Online for Blue Protocol , Crystal Dynamics for the next big gameTomb Raider and Glowmade and Disruptive Games for unannounced titles.
Amazon Studios is also producing the Rings of Power series for Prime Video, which is set during the Second Age of Middle-earth and is unrelated to the upcoming MMO being developed by Amazon Games.
