Javier Bardem (an award-winning Spanish actor known for Dune and No Country for Old Men) spoke to ET on Halle Bailey’s voice.
Singing in front of Halle is impossible. She warmed her voice next to me, and I asked her what she was doing. She replied that she only warmed her voice. It would take me five years to do something like this!
Twenty-one-year-old Halle Bailey has never been involved in such a large production. However, she is known for her vocal skills. She and her sister received five Grammy nominations and opened the concert of Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
Javier Bardem in The Little Mermaid will play the role of King Triton. It’s not clear if the actor will show off his singing (Triton doesn’t sing in the original production, and Bardem hasn’t yet boasted of his voice on a larger scale), but the new Little Mermaid is set to follow the path of the Broadway musical, so there’s a chance the entire cast will be sing. Additionally, the cast: Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric) and Melissa McCarthy (Ursula). The songs and music were written by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda, real stars of Disney’s musicals.
The acting version of The Little Mermaid is one of Disney’s most anticipated productions. No wonder, the film was announced many years ago, and the premiere is not scheduled until 2023.
