The Legacy of Captain Nemo – review of the comic book “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Nemo trilogy”

Alan Moore in the Nemo trilogy focuses on the fate of Captain Nemo’s daughter. Will a story loosely related to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen be just as fascinating?

From Antarctica, through the Reich to the Amazon…

The Nemo trilogy consists of three short stories: Heart of Ice , Berlin Roses , River of Ghosts . The first story tells about the conquests of young Janni Dakar. Captain Nemo’s daughter, after the last robbery, decides to live up to her father and decides to go to Antarctica! Berlin Roses tells the story of Nautilus’ command struggles with the Third Reich, in which the lives of its offspring are at stake. In the last story, Janni Dakar goes on a long journey to finally settle the conflict with an old enemy. In this way, he wants to ensure the safety of his descendants. Heart of iceI liked it especially because of the references to Lovecraft’s work. Kevin O’Neill introduced the nasty, amazing and terrifying creatures that inhabit this inaccessible, hostile, but beautiful land. Berlin roses annoyed me a lot. There are a lot of dialogues in German without any translation. The final story, however, is a worthy culmination of the fate of the brave, strong and dangerous Janni Dakkar.

Fifty years in the life of the captain

I liked the daughter of Captain Nemo the most in this trilogy. We have the opportunity to observe it for half a century! In the first story, she is young and quick-tempered, willing to take risks, not caring about the consequences of her actions. In Berlin Roses , the situation changes – she has not only a lover, but also a daughter and son-in-law. He looks at the world differently. Fame, wealth, adventure recede into the background. In the final, however, he intends to correct the mistake of the past. Now in her old age, she realizes that she doesn’t have much time left, so she obsessively seeks to finally close the fifty-year-old case. I like how the character matures over the years! In the river of ghoststhere is also the second most interesting character, i.e. a kind giant, with a name that says a lot. It is Hugo Hercules himself, characterized by above-average strength! It is worth mentioning that interesting articles by Hilda Johnson placed at the end of the first two stories are the only additions. I have no major objections to the release or graphics.

Is it worth serving Janni Dakkar?

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The Nemo trilogy is a comic independent of the earlier works with the League in the title. The world presented in it is more condensed, focused on Captain Nemo’s daughter and her crazy adventures, which is why this position is so light and pleasant to read. Plenty of action here, and all three stories are cleverly intertwined. When I received four League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comics for review , I assumed that the Nemo trilogy would be the worst . Meanwhile, this position positively surprised me, because it gave me the opportunity to see how Janni Dakkar has changed over the years.
