The least appreciated hero – review of the series “Hawkeye”

A story about archers

Stories about archers have been popular since the dawn of time. It is impossible not to mention Robin Hood or Green Arrow and his amazing family, which stole the hearts of superhero fans long before Barton, which is why he is so poorly recognized among superhero movie fans, and he himself does not care about his image in the Marvel world. Even his new student, Kate, who is actually the main character of the series, reproaches him. Hailee Steinfield, who plays it, pushes the story forward with her grace, stubbornness and youthful verve, thus showing how easy it is for her to adapt to the world of Avengers. The dialogues he leads with Jelena in the fifth and sixth episodes will long go down in the history of the MCU.

Of course, the series Kate Bishop is a bit different from the comic book one, because she seems even younger and even more passionate, and she treats Clinta a bit as an idol, and her entire story has been perfectly adapted to what was presented in the Marvel cinematic universe (although I honestly counted, that her mother would turn out to be a vampire, which however did not happen).

But what is this series about? First, about Christmas! I don’t think this thread has been touched by the stewards and Kevin Feige yet. Second – about the struggle of ordinary mortals with the mafia, led by the deaf person Maya. Big applause for the creators that, as in the case of Eternals,so and now they were not afraid to hire a person with a hearing impairment, namely Alaqui Cox. The actress of Indian origin, with her facial expressions, steals the entire show and arouses tension where it needs to be, and the silence that appears with her creates the right mood to experience the problems that arise around her and Barton. Third, it’s another film about dealing with the trauma of losing a friend and fear of losing loved ones. Clint as a mere mortal without a great fortune is unable to protect his loved ones like the other Avengers, but he does it in the best way he can, and still has the events of Endgame at the back of his head.. Thanks to this, many of us can identify with such a character more easily. The series itself carries a message that the family is not chosen, we can love it, but we must also see its mistakes and face ours.

Hawkeye , however, is not just a story about the above-mentioned issues. It is primarily a story about a teacher-student relationship, which is often as bumpy as the road to a distant goal, but it can bring people closer and give a lot of satisfaction to both those who learn and who are mentors. By some strange coincidence, I found myself in a similar situation to Clint Barton, but with two students who, together with their friends, in a similar crazy and daring way as Kate, turned my life upside down and showed what is most important in life, which is why this series is me certainly closer than other MCU productions.

Polish thread

It is impossible to review Hawkeye without mentioning the role of Piotr Adamczyk. The Polish actor added some freshness in the MCU, and at the same time filled Polish fans with the hope that we will see more “Polishness” in Marvel. His Polish insertions or even a carol performed in the first episode evoke not only a smile caused by the pride of the presence of the Polish language, but also laugh to tears with their absurdity, to which we are used to TV series and movies about the Avengers. One of the main antagonists, Kazi, according to comic book origin, is also a Pole, although in the series he is played by British actor Fra Fee. Nevertheless, along with his presence, there will also be Polish inserts giving reality to the thugs from the Vistula River. The characteristic “spie * dalam” will be present on Polish YouTube channels for a long time.

Marvel listens to fans

In addition to the fact that this series coherently brings together many characters, both new and old, it also introduces someone whom everyone has been waiting for a long time, and whose character the future was not too sure about – Kingpin. I think the official debut of this character in the MCU in the series with Hawkeye is one of the best ideas that came to the minds of the creators.

It is true that I can stick to the last episode, where the conversation between Jelena and Clint is something like “My mother was also called Marta”, and the scene after the credits is probably the least needed thread in this series, but the fight itself Kate with the main boss of the New York Mafia compensates for everything.

Summing up, I hope to see Clint on the screen again one day, because in this series Jeremy Renner showed a completely different face of this Avenger. A flesh-and-blood hero, who can be any of us who has a lot of personal and professional problems, but still does not give up, tries to be nice and feels responsible for the whole world. I am also happy about Kate’s debut and I hope that she will be a worthy member of the Avengers, and together with Jelena they will build a good team, just like Natasha and Clint once did. Or maybe we are also waiting for something more about Hawkeye’s mysterious wife?
