The hit HBO video game adaptation returns with a second season based on The Last of Us Part II in 2020! The action picks up four years after Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie Williams (Bella Ramsey) survived the Cordyceps apocalypse and settled in the community of Jackson, Wyoming.
There are quite a lot of stories to tell in The Last of Us Part II . Our plan is to do not only the next season, but also the next ones.
said co-creator and showrunner Craig Mazin
The series’ nine-episode first season, adapted from 2013’s The Last of Us and DLC The Last of Us: Left Behind, takes place before and during the events of the first game. The sequel expands the narrative with a controversial but pivotal character who becomes a playable protagonist in Part II.
When will the second season of The Last of Us come out ?
Mazin confirmed that season 2 is still in the scripting stage and will be filmed in British Columbia. According to Ramsey, production will begin in late 2024 or early 2025 on HBO and Max, Warner Bros. Discovery’s recently revamped service formerly known as HBO Max.
We don’t plan to tell any stories other than adapting the games. We won’t run into the same problem as Game of Thrones because Part II doesn’t end with a cliffhanger. I don’t want the show to go on forever. The series just can’t be… stupid.
– said co-creator and writer of the series, Neil Druckmann
All episodes of the first season of The Last of Us are streamed on HBO Max. The first season will be available for digital purchase and will be released on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD DVD starting July 18.
