One day, young Earthling Arthur learns with surprise that his closest friend Ford is an alien, and that Earth will almost be destroyed in a moment as it is on the route of a planned intergalactic highway. As a friend informs him dispassionately, the information about these plans was posted long ago in some galactic office on the planet Alpha Centauri, except that the Earthlings did not protest, which means that they agreed. The destruction of the homeworld and the destruction of the entire human species is just the beginning of incredible adventures for Arthur, because just before the catastrophe, Ford takes him on a spaceship on a journey through the Galaxy, during which he collects materials for a new edition of the compendium of all known knowledge, i.e. the guide to Hitchhiking through the Galaxy. On this endless journey
The above description is provided by the publisher.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a well-known and popular science fiction book by Douglas Adams, a British journalist and writer, which originates from a radio drama. It stole the hearts of the audience with an interesting plot and brilliant, sometimes absurd humor, which is why it quickly turned into a novel. It improves mood, allows you to relax, but at times also makes you reflect.
Therefore, this is not the first edition of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy , although it differs from the others – it is a jubilee edition. It appeared in bookstores on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of the title’s first publication, and for this reason it was illustrated by the phenomenal cartoonist and author of children’s books, Chris Riddell. The artist has been awarded many times for his numerous works.
The fact that the 42nd anniversary is celebrated is no coincidence. The number 42 was of great importance to Adams’ writings and signified the mockery of the writer of philosophical deliberations on existence. In the aforementioned novel, an eminently intelligent extraterrestrial race created a supercomputer whose sole purpose was to answer “The Great Question of Life, the Universe and the rest.” It took the machine over 7 million years to get the answer, and when the answer was given it was just “42”. Thus, this number is now associated with Adams.
In Poland, we can see his novel in a new version thanks to Zysk i S-ka. If you have not had the opportunity to learn about Arthur’s history and his cosmic adventure yet, you can now buy the book on the publisher’s website .
And we would not be ourselves if we did not prepare for you – the readers – a competition that will take place in some time. In the meantime, we will also share with you a review of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so please wait patiently!
