Not Dovahkiin anymore
There was a conspiracy against the king in Skyrim. At least that’s what Lyris Titanborn says, with whom we join forces in the first few hours of the game. According to her, a mysterious vampire clan intends to take control of Solitude and its surroundings with the help of people turned into bloodthirsty minions, attacking everything and everyone in their path. Of course, few believe her, and our task is to help prove and prevent the alleged conspiracy.
The plots will be enough for about 30 hours of fun, especially if we add side quests to it. And these can be quite interesting. I especially recommend looking for a mysterious bottle, lost in a dark corner of Solitude or a doll lost on the trail.
It is also worth adding that the story of Greymoor can end in many ways. How? It just depends on our decisions.
The vampires themselves, apart from a slight refreshment of the skill tree and the role of the main villains in history, have not received any major attractions. In this area, the expansion works just like Dawnguard for The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. But I believe some may be tempted by the mere option of becoming a Vampire Lord.
Indiana Jones and the midnight frosts
This time the creators did not enrich the expansion with a new class, instead they decided to propose players to play Indiana Jones. Archeology is a new activity that will allow us to get interesting items and even mythical gear.
During our adventures in West Skyrim, sooner or later we will come across a clue pointing to the location of the treasure. It will take a few puzzles to find him, but the rewards will certainly make up for the trouble. The first of the mini-games is based on selecting a potential site for an excavation using a special device. Proper selection will highlight the area on the map where you will definitely find the loot. Then, after searching the marked area and finding a specially marked mound, we will have to try to recover the treasure. Another minigame begins here, which is a kind of simplified variation of Minesweeper. By alternately scanning and digging through the area, in addition to the main chest, we will also be able to find smaller ones, containing additional finds.
Good for lone wolves
In addition to the above-described attractions, the new Skyrim also features a hunt for storm events, called Harrowstorms, and one new Trial, which is something like a twelve-person raid. These are also the only activities that we will need other players for, which is both a plus and a minus for the game. On the one hand, a solo MMO is a bit of a poor MMO, but on the other hand it gains a chance for those who do not like to make their entertainment dependent on other participants.
However, this does not change the fact that Greymoor is a decent expansion that will appeal to fans of The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls Online itself. Although the former are worth warning that they will not find Skyrim here, which they have met in the already cult RPG from Bethesda. We won’t experience dragons anymore, and most of the dragon tombs are buried and inaccessible. Nevertheless, Solitude and the slightly modified Blackreach are still impressive. And the fact that in Greymoor we can play both solo and with friends will surely gain him additional supporters.
So if you’ve enjoyed traveling in Skyrim, or are looking for reasons to reach for or return to The Elder Scrolls Online series, Greymoor can become a serious argument here. However, I must point out that this is an addition as interesting as … simply redundant, and the veterans of both of the aforementioned titles can be bored or even rejected with equal result.
We would like to thank Cenega for providing the review copy of the add-on for the PC.
