How are superhero movies made? HBO will answer this question in the latest comedy called The Franchise . We know who will handle the creation of the series.
HBO’s latest production comes at a rather unfortunate and – one might say – ironic moment. The interest in superhero films has recently declined to an alarming degree, and Warner Bros. Discovery abandoned Batgirl and other DC-themed productions. Even so, HBO approved the first half-hour episode of the comedy series The Franchise.
The production will focus on a group of filmmakers who will struggle with the realization of their own vision of superheroes in a fun way. It will take the viewer into an environment full of absurdity, hope, joy and dysfunction, at the same time showing the real hardships associated with the implementation of this type of production.
Armando Iannucci, known from productions such as Veep and Avenue 5 , and Sam Mendes, former James Bond director, will be responsible for the creation of the first episode . Joe Brown, previously working on Avenue 5 and HBO ‘s Succession, will also join the production team . Marina Hyde, known for her columns for The Guardian , will also appear as executive producer and writer . He will work alongside Keith Akushie, who was also involved in the production of Avenue 5 . Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown and Julie Pastor will also join the series as executive producers.
The script for the first episode was written by Joe Brown and Keith Akushie, based on a story invented with Iannucci. His comic book debut was this year, with a story published in Marvel Comics Amazing Fantasy # 1000 . Sam Mendes, in addition to James Bond, was also supposed to have made the first film about the Avengers, but eventually this role fell to Joss Whedon.
